insum / How It Works
Six stages, each one on the record.
From the first search to the last sentence of the report, each stage keeps a record of its inputs and decisions, so the finished work can be audited.
Evidence discovery
Searches combine a reusable library of previously captured sources, live web search, and specialist repositories for scholarly, legal, governmental, medical and scientific material.
Collection is polite and compliant: robots.txt and site terms are respected, requests are rate-limited, and the crawler identifies itself honestly.
insum retries politely if the site asks it to wait, otherwise looks for a different source for the same question, and names the blocked source in the final report.
Extraction
Claims are extracted from captured pages together with the exact passage they come from and its location in the source.
- Claim text
- Verbatim passage and locator
- Captured page version and retrieval time
Verification
Two checks run on every claim. First, the quotation must exist in the captured source. Second, a semantic check judges whether that passage supports the claim as stated, precisely and without addition.
Claims that fail are held or rejected, and the record is kept.
The semantic check is a model judgment. It is calibrated against human-labelled examples and can still be wrong, which is why the passage is always shown.
Reconciliation
Verified claims are linked to one another: corroboration, contradiction, tension, dependency and context. Disagreements are kept and explained where the sources allow, never averaged away.
- Disagreement and Structure views
- Fragility and coverage diagnostics
Report generation
The report is written from verified claims only, then audited: each sentence is checked against the evidence it cites, numbers are matched to their passages, and unsupported statements are flagged for revision.
- Research Report with ledger
- Evidence Atlas
Evaluation
The system is measured on grounding and precision, which ask whether each statement is supported by its cited passage. Coverage measures, completeness and correctness against a reference, are reported separately.
insum does not publish accuracy percentages on this site. Evaluation methods and results are available on request.
